University College London (UCL) was founded in 1826. It is among the world’s top universities, as reflected by performance in a range of international rankings and tables. UCL provides courses in twelve modern foreign languages, along with English, across a range of academic levels, to support UCL degree students, staff and London’s wider academic and professional community. The University is home to a specialised languages PGCE team within its Institue of Education (IOE). The IOE hosts England’s only dedicated Confucius Institute for Schools, which supports schools in starting and developing the teaching and learning of Mandarin Chinese and the study of China.
