• Exploring carnival: structuring language activities around a cultural topic, Rob Rix, Head of Studies in Spanish at Trinity & All Saints, Leeds;
• Education and training in a European context, Ann king, Vice Principal of the Richard Huish College, Taunton;
• New language policies in the UK: the implications reviewed, John Trafford, lecturer in Education, University of Sheffield; Paul Burrows, Head of the Central Bureau for Educational Visits and Exchanges in Belfast; Daniel Tierney, lecturer in Modern Languages, Jordanhill College of Education, Glasgow; and
• European industry’s language needs and the secondary curriculum, Stephen Hagen, Director of Curriculum Development for Languages at the CTC Trust.

Elsewhere in 1991, Bryan Adams celebrated 16 weeks at number one with ‘Everything I do (I do it for you); the US completed removal of all cruise missiles from Greenham Common; and thousands of British shops defied trading laws and opened their doors on a Sunday to combat the recession.
