Sessions and Workshops included:
• Teaching verbal aspects in Russian, Roy Bivon, Essex University;
• Teaching and learning grammar, Alison Taylor, Teacher and Freelance Language Consultant;
• Taking the ‘de’ out of ‘demotivation’, Gary Chambers, Leeds University;
• Providing access points to hearing impaired children, Anne-Marie Singer, Cornwall LEA, Truro; and
• EuroDisney, French politics and the American dream, Bill Brooks, Southampton University.

For those with the time to look elsewhere, Radio Five Live made its first broadcast, Silvio Berlusconi became prime minister of Italy, the first draw of the UK National Lottery took place and the Channel Tunnel was officially opened.
