A message from Muge Satar at Newcastle University

(NB K-12 =  pre-school, primary and secondary education).

Have you organised a virtual exchange (also known as COIL, telecollaboration, globally networked learning, etc.) for K-12 education? Would you like to share your story with others? Then get in touch! We offer £30 vouchers for your time.

The interviews will take place in January 2023. We offer £30 vouchers for your time. You can find our informed consent form attached to this email.

The ABC of Young People and VE: Access, Benefits and Content

We, an international research team, are conducting a large-scale study funded by the Stevens Initiative. We want to understand how K-12 educators and students in different regions characterise their past/current Virtual Exchange (VE, also known as COIL, telecollaboration, globally networked learning, etc.) experience, outcomes and identify any barriers to VE program adoption.

We are looking for volunteers in the UK to participate in 45-minute online interviews, ideally two interviews: 1. to elicit information, 2. to reflect on the first interview and dig deeper.

However, we are also grateful for one single opportunity to talk to you. If possible, we would also be very happy to speak to your learners and give them a voice, too.

The interviews will take place in January 2023. We offer £30 vouchers for your time. You can find our informed consent form Consent-Form-for-Adults-08-2022.pdf

We aim to shed light on the current VE situation in different regions, as related to K-12, and establish recommendations for improving identified barriers based on feedback from different participants. We focus on the same regions we investigated in our previous study funded by Stevens (see Project 1 here titled “Causes and Remedies”).

We use a Narrative Inquiry approach (Buttina, 2015, p. 190):

Defining features of the narrative approach include the collection of narrative (stories) from individuals or small groups. Most often there is collaboration with the researcher as storytelling engages the audience. These stories tell of individual experiences that often expose the researcher to the identities of that individual.

We will disseminate our case studies in a publication: The ABC of Young People and VE.
