The Institute for Learning is responsible for registering teachers and trainers in FE and skills; keeping an overview of teachers’ continuing professional development; conferring the professional status of Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills (QTLS) and Associate Teacher Learning and Skills (ATLS) through the Professional Formation process.

The IfL has announced new membership rates that come into force on April 1st 2011. Following the budget, amendments to rates payable by individual teachers have been made but cause for concern remains about the impact of charges on a workforce with a majority of part time members teaching minimal hours.
